One More For Martyn's Men

Monday 10th June saw the Wiltshire Seniors squad arrive at the beautiful Isle Of Purbeck Golf course for our first away league match against a strong Dorset side who were fresh from an away win against Devon.

We were greeted by a bright but very windy morning where sunglasses and a bobble hat were the order of the day. Firstly, for those who haven't been the views are stunning, some of the best in the South West; the Greens were running well and consistently, fairways were fine and well defined, so there was no excuse for the Tractor Boys not to excel!

Another strong Wiltshire squad , showing depth in numbers , got off to a great start in the morning Greensomes winning the first three matches before losing the last two so a close 3-2 win going into the afternoon. Ian Warwick and Andy lake making their first start of the season had an impressive 4/2 win

The afternoon singles got off to a great start with strong wins again for Andy Lake plus Ian Quigley and a hard fought half from Mark Snape. Next, a good win for Jez Tomlinson put us in a very strong position.

Through the tail matches Dorset started to recover but some great golf saw the Wiltshire team fight back from many losing positions to finish with an amazing 4 wins in the last 4 games and an impressive overall result of 10 1/2 - 4 1/2

For an away fixture at one of the strong Counties and a course we certainly were not to familiar with I would rate this as one of the strongest Wiltshire performances in recent years. Three wins from 3 and top of the Channel league Table

We have a slight gap until our next Channel league match away to Somerset at Burnham and Berrow on the 30th July but before that the very important SWCGA finals which we are hosting at Kingsdown on the 17th and 18th July and our quest to again reach the England County finals.

Please come along and support your county squad.

Our 8 man initial squad for Kingsdown consists of:

Simon Dymoke - North Wilts

Colin Edwards - Cumberwell

Bryan Lindsay - Cumberwell

Al Paterson - Tidworth

Iain Quigley - High Post

Mark Slater - North Wilts

Mark Snape - Cumberwell

Mike White - West Wilts
