Wiltshire Ladies beat Armed Forces Champs

Played in lovely sunshine at Wrag Barn on26th April, the Wiltshire County Ladies matched up against the Royal Navy Women’s team. We expected a tough match against the RN team as they are the current UK Armed Forces Interservices Champions, having delivered crushing defeats to the Army and RAF at the UKAF Championships at Formby GC in September 2024.

With scratch foursomes in the morning and singles match play in the afternoon, the Wiltshire team got off to a strong start with the first pairing of Jess Hayes (Cumberwell) and Nikki Sutton (Tidworth) delivering a 7/6 defeat over the RN players Hazelle Garton (Hayling) and Lauren Hulston (Wrag Barn). This was a particular notable victory for Nikki Sutton as it was her debut match for Wiltshire and dishing out a serving of revenge on the RN as Nikki also represents the Army!

At the halfway stage, Wiltshire had the upper-hand with wins in all 3 foursomes matches, so they only needed to secure 2 from the 6 singles matches in the afternoon. The matches were hard fought and played in good spirit, and with some exceptional golf on display, as demonstrated by these 4 tee shots into the 5th and some impressive improvisation by Jess Hayes, Wiltshire Ladies secured a convincing victory winning the singles 5/2.
