Great Start to SW Week for Wiltshire

Ali James’ young Wiltshire team had a stunning win against Somerset in the 1st match of South West Week at a blustery Cumberwell Park.

The morning singles couldn’t have got off to a better start with Cumberwell’s Ellis Bright halving with previous SW champion Curtis Edwards. The next five matches all went Wiltshire’s way with Harry Dickins (High Post), Garry Slade, Nick Korynevsky (both Cumberwell Park), Dom Seaman (Marlborough) and Tom Scullion (Upavon) registering victories.

Marlborough’s Tom Law ran into an in form Craig Adam’s which gave Somerset their only full point of the day, but Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn) recovered from 1 down to win 2 up, leaving Wiltshire 6.5 to 1.5 to the good at lunch.

All 4 afternoon Foursomes were fairly evenly contested early on, but the Tractor Boys slowly pulled away and the pairings of Korynevsky/Dickins, Slade/Bright, Dom Seaman and Freddie Titcombe (Marlborough) and Loughrey/Scullion all won. The eventual result of Wiltshire 12.5 Somerset 1.5 was s dominant performance, but a lot of the games could have gone either way, and all were played in a great spirit.

Tomorrow Wiltshire play Gloucestershire with the first tee at 09:00, so come along and watch the best players in the South West lock horns again
